Annis J. Jones, 104, of Winterset, formerly of Murray area died Monday, December 15, 2008 at the Winterset Care Center South. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at the Church of Christ in Murray.   Open visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Brian McCracken will officiate the service. Burial will be at the Murray Cemetery in Murray. Memorials can be made to Church of Christ in Murray. Online condolences can be made under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.   Annis Jane Jones, daughter of James Hamilton Carter and Edna Grace (Camp) Carter, was born September 4, 1904 in the Troy Twp., Clarke Co., Iowa. Annis was a country school teacher in Clarke and Madison Counties from 1922 to 1931. On Nov. 14, 1932 she was united in marriage to Hazel Wayne Jones in Bethany, Missouri. Annis was a housewife and a librarian in Murray from 1949 to 1975.   She was a member of Rebekah Lodge #138 from 1938 to 1986, where she held all offices and was a retired past noble grand and assistant. She was also a member of the Murray Church of Christ, Ladies Council Circle, President of Library Board from 1975 to 1986, Sunday School Teacher from 1920 to 1922, Madison Chapel 1917 to 1938, Leader of 4H Club, Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownies, Girl Scouts and American Legion Junior Auxiliary for 21 years.   Survivors include her son, Frank (wife Debbie) Carter of Winterset; eleven grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many other family and friends.   Annis was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hazel, one daughter, Shirley Ballinger, four brothers and two sisters.
