2. Sylvestor Newton Travis

occupation blacksmith/farmer


Mary Elizabeth Hillman

occupation postmistress.   Also a seamstress.    
The sewing machine she owned was passed down to grand daughter Edith Travis Camp, who sewed almost all of the clothing for herself and family of eight children on that old treadle sewing machineuntil 1949.  
Her parents and brother John ran a merchantile business.
She was granted a teacher's certificate in 1870.


Mary Elizabeth Young

She went to Winterset, Ia in 1869 after her father's third marriage to Henrietta Martin (1865)  Mary Elizabeth, Martha Ellen, and Francis William went to Iowa together. The story is told that their father, David B. Young pinned them all together with a safety pin and cord so they could not get separated on the train.


Eliza Alice(Aunt Allie) Bird

"Aunt Allie" was the one who taught M.B "Bate" meat cutting, which was his occupation most of his life.
