Harvey Robert Head

ROBERT SERVED IN WORLD WAR II AS A MEMBER OF COMPANY M , THIRD
BATTALION, 345TH REGIMENT OF THE 87TH INFANTRY DIVISION ASSIGNED TO
THE US THIRD ARMY.  THE 87TH WAS KNOWN AS THE "GOLDEN ACORN DIVISION"
AND WORE A GOLD ACORN ON A CIRCLE OF GREEN FOR A DIVISION PATCH.

THE 87TH DIVISION TRAINED AS A UNIT AT CAMP McCAIN IN MISSISSIPPI.
THE DIVISION WAS ACTIVATED ON DECEMBER 15, 1943.

THE FIRST ELEMENTS OF THE 87TH WERE SENT TO ENGLAND  ON OCTOBER 4,
1944, AND ARRIVED THERE OM OCTOBER 13.  THE LAST ELEMENT LEFT THE U.S.
ON NOVEMBER 4, 1944 AND ARRIVED THERE ON NOVEMBER 13.  THE DIVISION
WAS SENT TO LE HAVRE, FRANCE BEGINNING ON THE 24TH OF NOVEMBER UNTIL
THE 29TH.  THE DIVISION BEGAN MOVEMENT FROM LE HAVRE ON NOVEMBER 28TH.
THE DIVISION FOUGHT IN SEVERAL CAMPAIGNS INCLUDING "THE BATTLE OF THE
BULGE" ALSO KNOWN AS THE ARDENNES, RHINELAND, AND CENTRAL EUROPE.

ROBERT EARNED SEVERAL MEDALS, INCLUDING THE BRONZE STAR FOR
MERITORIOUS SREVICE, AND THE COMBAT INFANTRYMANS BADGE.  HE HAS THREE
CLUSTERS ON HIS EUROPEAN, AFRICAN, AND MIDDLE EASTERN SERVICE MEDAL TO
DENOTE THE THREE CAMPAIGNS THAT HE PARTICIPATED IN.

HIS ARMY SERIAL NUMBER WAS 37 126 182.  SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
708-07-6543.
